Buying good supplements is only half the job, how you store them afterward has a real effect on whether they stay potent, taste right and last as long as they should. Powders in particular, whether it's your whey, creatine or an amino product like BCAAs or L-Glutamine, are sensitive to moisture, heat and light in ways that aren't always obvious until you notice your tub has gone clumpy or the flavour's flattened out.

Moisture is the biggest enemy of any powdered product. Every time you open a tub with a wet scoop, or leave the lid off while you're mixing a shake, you're letting humidity in, and that's what causes clumping and, eventually, spoilage. Always use a dry scoop, and get into the habit of closing the lid properly straight after use rather than leaving it propped open on the kitchen bench. This applies just as much to Electrolyte Powder, Magnesium Glycinate or Vitamin C powder as it does to protein, since these are all sensitive to picking up moisture from the air.

Heat is the next thing to manage. A cupboard near the oven, a spot in direct sun through a window, or a car boot on a hot day will all degrade a powder faster than storage in a cool, dry cupboard or pantry. This matters even more for anything with active ingredients that can break down under heat over time, like Creatine Monohydrate or Beta Alanine, where you want the dose you're scooping out to actually match what's on the label months after opening.

Light exposure plays a role too, particularly for products in clear packaging or once you've decanted something into a glass container like The Jar. Keeping powders in a cupboard rather than out on a sunny bench helps preserve both potency and flavour over time, especially for flavoured products where the flavour compounds are more sensitive than the protein itself.

Once opened, most of our powders are best used within the timeframe noted on the tub, and that clock starts ticking the moment you break the seal, not from the manufacture date. This is one more reason bulk bags aren't the right choice for everyone, a 20kg bag of WPC sitting half-used for months in a home kitchen is more exposed to air and moisture over its life than a tub you finish in a few weeks.

Capsule and tablet-style products aren't part of our range, but for our RTD Pre-Workout cans and Protein Water, refrigeration after opening and drinking within a reasonable window applies, similar to any perishable drink. For everything else, a cool dry cupboard, a tightly sealed lid and a dry scoop will do more for your supplements' shelf life than almost anything else you could do.
