Sucralose (Artificial Sweetener)

Sucralose is a zero-calorie sweetener and sugar substitute. It is about 600 times sweeter than sugar and does not have the bitter aftertaste of many other sweeteners.

Sucralose is used in many food and beverage products because it is zero-calorie and tooth-friendly (it does not promote dental cavities). It can also be used as a sugar substitute in cooking and baking, as it is highly heat-stable.

Sucralose is made through a process that begins with regular table sugar (sucrose), although sucralose is not sugar. Three hydrogen-oxygen groups on a sucrose molecule are replaced with three chlorine atoms, resulting in a no-calorie sweetener about 600 times sweeter than sugar. Its structure prevents digestive enzymes from breaking it down, so most consumed sucralose is not absorbed and it provides no calories.

Because sucralose is so much sweeter than sugar, only a small amount is needed to sweeten a shake, drink or baked recipe, and it is commonly used alongside protein powders, flavour powders and baking mixes.
