Caffeine is the ingredient doing most of the heavy lifting in almost every pre-workout on the market, so it's worth knowing exactly how much you're taking before you scoop.
Typical doses
Most commercial pre-workouts land somewhere between 150mg and 300mg of caffeine per serve. Our Pre-Workout sits at 200mg per 10g (one teaspoon) serve. The label allows for a full-strength 20g serve, which doubles that to 400mg, but we're clear on the packaging that you shouldn't go past that in a 24 hour period.
How that compares to coffee
A standard 8oz (roughly 250ml) brewed coffee generally contains somewhere between 80mg and 100mg of caffeine, though it varies a fair bit depending on the bean, roast and brew method. That puts a single 10g serve of our pre-workout at roughly two cups of coffee, and a full 20g serve at closer to four.
What's considered a safe amount
Health authorities including the FDA generally regard up to 400mg of caffeine a day as fine for most healthy adults. That's the figure most pre-workout labels, including ours, are built around. The catch is that "most healthy adults" doesn't mean everyone. Caffeine sensitivity varies a lot from person to person, and anything else you drink that day, coffee, tea, energy drinks, soft drink, all counts toward the same daily total.
If you're training in the evening and already had a coffee or two earlier, it's worth doing the maths before adding a full pre-workout serve on top. Starting with a half serve and building up from there is a reasonable way to find your own tolerance.
Who should be more careful
Pregnant women, people with heart conditions, and anyone taking medication that interacts with stimulants should check with a doctor before using a caffeinated pre-workout. If you'd rather skip caffeine altogether, building your own stack from ingredients like our Creatine Monohydrate and L-Citrulline Malate gives you a stimulant-free way to support training instead.
