Whey protein concentrate (WPC) is the most common protein powder on the market, but the quality gap between one tub and the next can be huge. Here's what actually separates a good WPC from a cheap one, and where ours sits.
What is whey protein concentrate?
WPC is made by filtering liquid whey, a byproduct of cheese-making, to concentrate the protein while leaving some of the natural fat, carbohydrate and lactose behind. That's different to whey protein isolate (WPI), which goes through extra filtration to strip out more of the fat and lactose and push the protein percentage higher. WPC is generally less processed, creamier in texture, and better value per gram of protein. We break down that comparison in more detail on our Whey Protein Concentrate product page.
What actually makes a WPC high quality?
Not all WPC is created equal, and the difference usually comes down to a handful of things: protein content sitting in the 70 to 80 percent range rather than padded out lower, no added sugars, fillers, dextrins or maltodextrin used to stretch the formula, whey sourced from grass-fed, hormone-free dairy, a consistent single source rather than a rotating mix of cheese byproducts, and independent third-party testing to back up what's on the label.
Why grass-fed matters
Grass-fed dairy cattle graze on pasture rather than being fed a grain-heavy diet, and it tends to produce milk with a cleaner nutritional profile. New Zealand in particular is known worldwide for pasture-based dairy farming, with cows grazing for most of the year, which is part of why so much premium whey protein traces back to New Zealand herds.
Our Whey Protein Concentrate
Our Whey Protein Concentrate is made from grass-fed Australian and New Zealand dairy, blended with a portion of whey protein isolate to lift the protein content higher than a standard WPC while keeping the smooth, creamy texture WPC is known for. There are no fillers, no maltodextrin, and no cheap protein blends hiding in the ingredients list, just whey, flavouring where relevant, and a sweetener. Every batch is independently lab tested before it reaches you, as covered in Why We Lab Test Our Protein and Beyond Protein: What We Actually Test For.
Who it suits
It's a solid everyday protein for gym-goers, strength athletes and anyone who wants an easy way to hit their daily protein target without paying isolate prices for every scoop. Mix one serve with 200 to 300mL of water or milk after training, between meals, or whenever you need a convenient protein top-up. Check out the full range on our whey protein collection page.
